Children learn to read in very predictable ways. It's not about guessing or looking at the pictures for clues. It's about letters and sounds and the very specific way our brains learn to process the printed word. Understanding how we learn to read is the first step in teaching reading.
Sometimes learning to read is difficult. There are many reasons why some children struggle when learning how to read. Often the roadblocks to reading are neurologically-based and identifying these issues is the first step toward success.
Students with learning disabilities require carefully-tailored interventions. It is not unusual for students with dyslexia, or other types of learning disabilities, to faulter year after year in school- sometimes remaining at the same reading level for years. Unfortunately, today's typical school reading programs (even those considered by schools to be "specially designed") are often not appropriate for these complex learners.
Linda starts with a careful assessment to determine your child's specific reading abilities and learning needs. The next step is to develop a structured, individualized intervention with research-based methods and materials.
